Where Do I Go to Get a Website Designed in Jamaica?

Let me first apologize for leaving any of our fellow Jamaican website design agencies and freelancers off the list below.  We tried our best to include everyone.  But there has never been more choices in the Jamaican website design industry than now and, as the paradox of choice states, "more choices, more confusion".  The plethora of choices available to business owners in Jamaica makes choosing more difficult than ever.

So How Do You Choose A Jamaican Website Designer?

The secret to making the right choice is to first determine what your precise needs are rather than trying to wade through the deep sea of designers and their long list of inclusions.  Grab a pen and a sheet of paper and write out your exact needs, goals and all that you require.  Once you do that, the battle is half done.  You should be able to remove some options from the list pretty quickly thereafter.

With that said, this guide will assist you through the process of elimination to choose the right website designer for your project.

1. Set a budget

A question that has more than likely entered your mind is "How much does it cost to build a website?"  That's a simple question with a complex answer.  There is no industry standard in price or packages and designers will vary in both areas.

A bigger budget will give you more options. For example, if you have a tight budget, you might have to seek out the services of designers who use templates as the basis of their designs.  WordPress or Joomla! templates will likely be the go-to content management system.  They will also utilize existing solutions developed by third party developers such as booking solutions, CRMs, shopping carts and so on.  But, with more funds to work with, you are free to shop around and find the best fit for your company's needs which might be a full service web deign agency that will develop a one-of-a-kind custom website for you.

2. What type of designer will you hire?

You have two options. You can either hire a freelancer or a design agency.  A design agency has a team of professionals who specialize in different areas of website design and development.  You might have the photographer, the content writer, the graphic designer and the programmer who work together to give you a finished website.  With an agency, you will get quicker turnaround times, extreme customization and open communication.  Although this sounds great, it comes with a price tag.  If you're a solopreneur on a budget, you might have to revert to one of the many freelancers in the business.  This is not necessarily a bad thing.  Although some freelancers can be less than professional, there are some whose work is on par with the big agencies who can give you a website to be proud of.

3. Look at their past work

You want to ensure that you look at your web designer's portfolio before hiring them. That will give you some confidence that your choice of designer is the correct one. One reason for looking at their past work is to determine if they have done projects similar to your's before. If they do, you can look at examples of websites they’ve designed for companies similar to yours. It’s a great way to get insight into a company to see how they produce designs for your industry and if you like their designs. If they don’t have experience with your industry, you can still look at their portfolio to see their design style. It’s a great way to understand a company’s design style and see if it fits with what you like. Taking a look at a web designer’s portfolio will help you see what they can potentially create for you.

4. Read testimonials

Client testimonials are a great way to gauge the quality of the website designers you are looking at hiring.  Some designers will have some testimonials on their website.  While others will have them at their Google My Business Page. .

5. Compare prices

6. Ask if they provide add-on services

Some freelancers are more that just freelancers.  Some might offer

7. Request references

Treat the hire of your design agency the same as you would treat the hiring of a new employee.  Ask for references.
